What if your to-do list isn’t the problem?

The Follow-Through: Task vs. Energy Mapping

The energy of the mind is the essence of life.” — Aristotle

Some people organize their day by what needs to get done.
Others—often quietly—organize their day by how they’re feeling.

Neither is wrong. But when your to-do list keeps growing and your energy keeps dipping, it’s usually a sign that your system is running on logic, not life.

I once spoke with my client who said, “I know what I should do each hour. But I never seem to do it in the hour I planned.” That small sentence held a deep truth: we don’t operate in a vacuum.

We operate in bodies. And bodies carry moods, distractions, hormones, histories.

Mapping your tasks is helpful. But mapping your energy is honest.

It brings rhythm back to routine—so that what you do when is aligned with who you are right now.

Try Energy Zoning

Try this one-day experiment:

  1. Track your energy, not your time.
Morning, midday, and late afternoon—notice: high, steady, low?
  2. Note the types of tasks you did during each energy window.
  3. Ask: What kind of work fits which zone best?
(e.g., creative work in the morning, admin post-lunch, calls when you’re alert)
  4. Adjust just one thing tomorrow to align task + energy.

This isn’t about optimization. It’s about attunement—so your day feels less like resistance and more like resonance.

Reflection:

"What becomes possible when you plan for the energy you have, not just the time you have?"

If the idea of planning your day around your real energy—not just your calendar—feels unfamiliar, or maybe like something you’ve quietly wanted for a long time, you’re not the only one. We’re often taught to push through instead of paying attention. But there’s another way.

If it’s been hard to slow down on your own, I offer free 1:1 calls. No pressure. No need to have it all figured out. Just a real conversation, where you can talk things through and name what’s been feeling heavy.

You don’t have to carry it all alone.

It starts with one small action.

Not a big breakthrough. Not the perfect plan. Just one step that aligns with who you want to become. You don’t need to say more—just start doing.
